Your school class or youth group is invited to
schedule a field trip at the 16-acre Pumpkin Farm in Citrus Heights.
This is the 34th year that the Pumpkin Farm is offering its school
and youth group program!
This educational tour includes the following activity
sequence:
• Learn about the origin, use and cultivation
of two plant families: cucurbits (gourds, pumpkins, squash) and
corn (Indian, Field, Broom and Popcorn). (15 minutes)
• Enjoy a hayride through the pumpkin, corn and blooming sunflower
fields (15 minutes, 0.5 mile)
• NEW IN 2008! - Learn about and
see the GIANT PUMPKINS we are growing on the farm. Some of our pumpkins
are already over 800 pounds and the World Record pumpkin is 1689
pounds!
• Visit with farm zoo birds and animals - llamas, calves,
sheep, goats, pigs, turkeys, geese, ducks, chickens.
• View extensive collection of our antique farm equipment,
many from the horse-powered era.
• Look at scarecrows (usually more than twenty entered in
contest plus other displayed by the farm).
• Walk or run through our one acre corn field maze.
• Crawl through a hay bale maze, climb a deck under oak trees
and slide down to base of straw bale pyramid.
• Climb to top of the lookout tower and descend to ground
level using 4 enclosed tube slides at different levels.
• Walk through our haunted barn and see 250 feet of displays
featuring Halloween folklore themes (includes over forty artistic
scenes presented in a background of fog, light, motion and sound
special effects).
• Pick and take home a small pumpkin (5-8 inches in diameter).
SCHEDULE: Tours are October 1st - 31st, 9am -6pm
2008 FEES: October 1st - 15th:
$6 per person
October 16th – 31st: $7 per person
The per person fee (for student, parent, adult and siblings 2 years
& older) includes all the activities below and a small pumpkin.
One classroom teacher or group leader per 20 students has free admission.
Fees are payable in lump sum cash, check or credit card for all
participants by teacher or group leader upon arrival and registration
at the farm. Please note that any non-weather related cancellations
must be made at least 1 week prior to a scheduled trip or be subject
to a 25% cancellation fee.
SCARECROW CONTEST: $1,500 in
total prize money this year! (Refer to enclosed brochure). Participation
is open to schools, youth groups, organizations, or the general
public.
